Product Description
LGV Driver Training
*Important* If you passed your car test after 1997 you are not entitled to drive a vehicle over 3500kg (3.5ton) or a car with a trailer over 750kg . To operate a vehicle between 3.5t and 7.5t you will require catergory C1 on your licence
The LGV licence is broken down in to 2 catergories:
Catergory C - Allows the holder to drive a rigid vehicle over 7500kg, it is also known as a rigid licence or class 2.
Catergory C+E - Allows the holder to drive articulated lorries and lorries towing a trailer. You must already hold a Catergory C licence before you can undertake C+E training. You cannot go straight from a car licence to a C+E.
+E - If you want to pull a trailer over 750kg (Horse Boxes, Trailer Tents etc) you will require a +E on your licence.
All of our LGV training is carried out on an in-cab One to One basis. Our professional instructors will train you to drive the lorry to the DSA standard .
Training will usually consist of several lessons (will be assessed on candidates individual ability) and will cover practical driving on public roads, checks to be made to vehicles before use, reversing, braking and manoeuvering, coupling and uncoupling the trailer (C+E Only) leading to a practical driving test with a DSA examiner, all carried out in our training vehicle.
If you have decided that this is for you then here are the steps you will need to follow to aquire catergories C and C+E (stage testing):
Step 1- Any queries questions or simply for information please contact us
Step 2- Contact your GP to arrange an LGV medical check. Form D4 is required - SEE OUR MAIN CATERGORIES FOR A FREE DOWNLOADABLE D4 MEDIAL FORM AND INFORMATION FORM ON HOW TO FILL IN THE FORM D4
Step 3- After your medical, complete the provisional LGV application Form D2 ( SEE OUR MAIN CATERGORIES PAGE FOR A LINK THROUGH TO THE DVLA WEBSITE TO APPLY FOR YOUR D2 APPLICATION PACK ) and then send the completed D2, D4 and your driving licence to DVLA
Step 4- When you get your licence back you can then apply to the DSA to undergo parts 1a (Multiple choice questions) and 1b (Hazard perception) theory test
Step 5- Get in touch with us. Once you have passed both parts of the theory test you are then ready to start your driver traing in order to pass (Part 3) the practical driving test. Once passed you will then have obtained catergory C on your licence
Step 6- If you then want to continue on to your C+E you will need to wait for your licence to return and then cover Step 5 this time in our articulated lorry.
For you to then drive professionally from this point on you will also require a driver CPC initial qualification (PLEASE SEE Driver CPC Training SECTION ON OUR MAIN CATERGORIES PAGE)
